October Events at the Railroad Museum

September 18, 2018

The Las Cruces Railroad Museum offers a variety of programs during October that will appeal to everyone in the family. Choose an activity that fits your interests, and enjoy it in our 1910 Santa Fe Depot museum.

The Doña Ana Modular Railroad Club will have their H-O modular train display operating on Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20. Come ask the experts for tips on creating your own layout, or just enjoy watching multiple trains run through the tableaus on the large layout.

“Rail Readers Book Club” meets at 11am on October 17 with a discussion based on Carola Dunn’s Rattle His Bones, a novel set in a history museum in 1923. Even if you haven’t read the book, come enjoy the lively conversation.

The Brown Bag Lecture will be presented at 12pm on October 9 by Marie McGrath, Education Curator at the Branigan Cultural Center. Learn about a local ghost town in her presentation titled “Lake Valley: Boom to Bust”.

Adults who enjoy coloring can come between 10am – 12pm on October 12 and 26. This is a chance to enjoy socializing with other adults while expressing yourself creatively. Bring your own supplies or use our coloring pages and colored pencils.

There are two Story Times for children in October, both beginning at 11am.  On Saturday, October 6, children of all ages can listen to a story and complete a related craft. On Thursday, October 11, Mrs. Prickett and her playful puppets will engage pre-school children with a book and activity.

Family Game Day is from 10am – 12pm on Saturday, October 13. Challenge your friends to a game of Dominoes, practice your hand-eye coordination with Cup and Ball Toss, and play a variety of games that have entertained families for centuries.

The museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturdays 9am to 4:30pm.   For additional information, visit the website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call (575) 528-3444.
