“Capturing Color” by Jeri Desrochers: Discussion and painting demonstration

August 14, 2018

Join the Branigan Cultural Center as Jeri Desrochers presents, “Capturing Color,” a discussion and painting demonstration on Saturday, August 25 at 1pm.

Desrochers’ work is known for her vibrant, glowing expressions in oil paint. Growing up on a small family-run farm, she feels a close connection to the people who work the land and seeks to express the beauty of the land itself. Desrochers will discuss the use of color and inspirations she received from the Bracero Programs. Her oil paintings are currently featured in Braceros: Melding History and Art.

“The magic between the painter, the painting and the viewer is my ultimate goal” Desrochers says. “I hope to share my emotional reaction to the intense light and color of the New Mexico landscape in my paintings.”

Braceros: Melding History and Art is on display at the Branigan Cultural Center through Wednesday, October 3. The exhibit features oil paintings by Desrochers, sculptures by Diana LeMarbe, and historical research by Raymond Cobos. Through the art and history, the exhibit tells a unique facet of an underappreciated part of U.S. history.

Admission is free to the Branigan Cultural Center, located at 501 North Main Street. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm, and Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. Enjoy special summer evening hours when the museum is open until 8pm on Wednesdays through the end of August.
