“A History of White Sands Missile Range” Brown Bag Lecture, Feb. 13, 12 PM

The Las Cruces Railroad Museum hosts a free Brown Bag Lecture at 12pm on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. On February 13, Jim Eckles will present, “A History of White Sands Missile Range”.


White Sands Missile Range is the Department of Defense’s largest open-air range, providing research, development, experimentation and training facilities to all branches of the United Sates Armed Forces, its allies, and partners. It covers almost 3,200 square miles in southern New Mexico.

Eckles worked in the Public Affairs Office of White Sands Missile Range from 1977 until he retired in 2007. He has published two books about the history of the range, and was inducted into the missile range’s Hall of Fame. He is on the board of directors for both the White Sands Missile Range Historical Foundation and the Doña Ana County Historical Society. He and his wife live in Las Cruces and enjoy bicycling, hiking and playing golf.

The museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday 9am to 4:30pm. For additional information, visit the website at: or call (575) 647-4480.
