Active Galaxy, with Dr. Eric Magrane, Jan. 31, 5:30 PM at MoNaS

Join the “Active Galaxy Lecture Series” at the Museum of Nature and Science on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, from 5:30pm-6:30pm. This month’s topic takes us on an exploration of place, natural history, and the intersections of science and art. Dr. Eric Magrane will read from and discuss his book The Sonoran Desert: A Literary Field Guide, published in 2016 by the University of Arizona Press. The book blends the genres of literary anthology and field guide and has received several awards, including a 2016 Southwest Book of the Year and a New Mexico-Arizona Book Award.

Dr. Eric Magrane is a geographer and a poet on the faculty in the Department of Geography at New Mexico State University (NMSU). He earned his Ph.D. from the School of Geography and MFA in creative writing at the University of Arizona. In addition to professorship at NMSU, Magrane is currently the poet in residence at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and has been artist in resident at three National Parks where he unearths the harmony between the humanities and science.
