Artist Tiago Finato to teach Still Life Course, Nov. 12

October 28, 2016

The Museum of Art is pleased to offer a two-session course for the community, “Still Life: Painting Everything From Life,” November 12 and 19 at 2pm. This course, led by artist Tiago Finato, develops an understanding of color, color intensity, and value by exploring various methods of painting that form the framework of learning to interpret objects as they are seen. The still life serves as the subject for the creation of pictorial space and form. Students will acquire the fundamental perceptual, technical, and critical skills necessary to work artistically and begin to develop an understanding of the media.

Finato moved to the United States from Brazil to continue exploring the art world and established himself in Massachusetts, where he graduated with a BFA in painting. He resides in Las Cruces, where he spends most of his time painting, teaching, and studying for his MFA. Finato uses oil painting as a fundamental basis for visual language and his work investigates the process of art making as a metaphor for his own personal identity as an artist. With the use of portraiture, still life and landscapes, he creates works that reflect on who he is as an individual. His work is featured in galleries in New England and New Mexico.

Cost per participant is $20 and registration is required. Please visit the museum or call 575.541.2217 for details.

Admission to the Museum of Art is free. The museums are located on the downtown mall and are open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For additional information, visit the website at: museums.las-cruces.org.
