Visions of Our Monument Opens April 8

March 18, 2016

The Branigan Cultural Center presents, Visions of Our Monument: Portraits of the Organ Mountain Desert Peaks National Monument, by Meg G. Freyermuth.  The exhibit opens Friday, April 8, and will be on display through Saturday, June 4, 2016.  A reception with the artist will be held on Friday, April 15, from 5pm to 7pm

Visions of Our Monument features paintings and drawings inspired during artist Meg G. Freyermuth’s term as Artist-In-Residence for the Organ Mountain Desert Peaks (OMDP) National Monument.  Freyermuth’s work explores the importance of our local ecosystem, the cultural significance of the land for the people who live here, and the complex personal relationship that each individual has to the land that surrounds them.  Her dramatic portraits evoke these connections of people and place within the surreal desert landscapes of the Monument.

Freyermuth received her BFA in Painting from New Mexico State University in 2009.  Her passion for painting wilderness areas, particularly those areas in the southwestern United States, contributed to her selection as the first ever Artist-In-Residence for the OMDP National Monument.  The Artist-In-Residence program is brought to Doña Ana County by the Friends of the OMDP and the Bureau of Land Management-Las Cruces District.

The museum is located at 501 North Main Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4:30pm, Thursday from 10am to 8pm, and Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm.  For additional information, visit the website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call 575.541.2154.

If you need an accommodation for a disability to enable you to fully participate in this event, please contact the museum 48 hours prior to the event.
