Book Club to Discuss Geraldine Brook’s “March” and “Widow of the South”

December 14, 2013

Branigan Cultural Center LogoThe Civil War split the nation, regions, and even families.  Aside from the political and social implications of war, the personal experiences of conflict bring added dimensions to our understanding of the War, a topic we will explore in December and January through two historical fictions.

To accompany the exhibit Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War,  the Branigan Cultural Center’s Cultural Connections Book Club will be reading Geraldine Brook’s March in December.  March follows Mr. March, the father from Little Women, as he departs to join the Union forces.  A conversation will be led by Dr. Dwight Pitcaithley, Professor of History at NMSU and former Chief Historian for the National Park Service.  Please read March and join us for a discussion of the book on Wednesday, December 18, from 2-4 pm at the Branigan Cultural Center. The following month we will read Widow of the South by Robert Hicks.

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 North Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For more information, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154 or visit the Center’s website at
