“Environmental changes have always been associated with the appearance of new diseases or the arrival of old diseases in new places.  With more changes, we can expect more surprises,”

– Stephen Morse of Columbia University

Global Climate Change can affect many things in our lives – our food, homes, hobbies, etc. One of the most troubling is the effect climate change can have on diseases. The Museum of Nature & Science will discuss some of the ways diseases will be affected by climate change and why this could be a problem; at Family Science Saturday on September 7, 2013 and September 21, 2013 at 2 pm in the museum classroom. Registration is not required and the program is free.

What would happen if diseases uncommon in this area such as malaria were to appear? What are the possibilities of that happening? How can climate affect populations, vectors, and diseases? These and many other questions will be answered on this Family Science Saturday. The class will also include some hands-on activities and experiments on the diseases and distributions discussed.

The museum is located at 411 North Main Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. For additional information, visit the website at: las-cruces.org/museums or call (575)522-3120.

If you need accommodations for a disability to enable you to fully participate in this event please contact the museum 48 hours prior to the event.
