The Lost Buildings of Las Cruces

August 8, 2013

The Branigan Cultural Center’s presents The Lost Buildings of Las Cruces. The exhibit runs through Saturday, September 28.

Since its founding in 1849, the landscape of Las Cruces dramatically changed. With time and growth, the buildings that were considered landmarks were lost. Some disappeared due to fire and structural failure while others fell to development. In this photographic exhibit, these ‘lost’ buildings are seen and, in them, we are able to chart the history of Las Cruces.

Christopher Schurtz, the curator of this display, received his master’s degree in history from New Mexico State University in 2009. He is a lifelong resident of the area and currently writes stories on local history for ‘My Las Cruces,’ a weekly section of the Las Cruces Sun-News. He is the author of the book Historic Las Cruces. Join us as we share Mr. Schurtz’s appreciation of this city and its rich architectural past.

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 N. Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For more information, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154 or visit the Center’s web site at las-cruces.org/museums.
