Rail Readers’ Book Club: “Talking God”

May 11, 2013

The Rail Readers Book Club meets at the Las Cruces Railroad Museum at 11:00 am on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.  On May 15 we will discuss Tony Hillerman’s Talking God.

A body found next to the railroad tracks east of Gallup, New Mexico, has been stripped of all identification.  It is Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn’s responsibility to identify the body and find the killer.

Agnes Tsosie and her family are preparing for a Yeibichai, a nine-day Navajo ceremony to restore her harmony. Officer Jim Chee is told to arrest Henry Highhawk, a Smithsonian curator who will be watching the ceremony.  Highhawk is charged with desecration of graves.

These two seemingly unrelated events come together in Washington, D.C. when Chee and Leaphorn get together to discuss their reasons for being in the capital.  A second murder at the Smithsonian convinces them that the two cases are very closely linked, and they must stop the murderer before he strikes again.

The museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla Street, at the intersection of Las Cruces Ave.  New members always welcome.
